There are several different types of the Eager Beaver 28cc trimmers. Without the model number, we cannot see the type that you have. That trimmer is manufactured by McCulloch. You may see a small Torx head screw in the center of the clutch drum. Remove that screw and slide the clutch drum off.
If the engine shaft turns when you are removing the screw, remove the spark plug and fill the cylinder with small clean rope. The rope will jam the piston and stop the engine from turning. Remove the screws holding the fan housing to the engine and remove the fan housing. The rope and the starter pulley are inside the fan housing. Be very careful removing the starter pulley and spring. The spring will unwind violently if it is released. I hope that this information helps.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the softener. If you do not have the pressure drop when the softener is bypassed I suspect the problem is a plugged upper distributer. The image below shows where the upper distributer is located. Before taking the softener apart, push the regeneration button to start a regeneration. This will bleed the pressure off.

Then remove the clips that are marked in blue in the image. Once the clips are removed, lift the valve body off. Please not the locations of the o-rings. Then remove the upper distributer and clean the sediments out of it. Once it is clean reassemble the softener and checks the operation. I hope this is helpful. After you have completed the repair plug, the softener in. Once it is plugged in the motor will run until it finds the rotor position.
