I bought a 1000D yesterday with an unusual problem. The previous owner said it was working fine until he tried to tune up on 160 meters while using an 80 meter antenna.

Radio seems to have full output of 200 watts. Sub receiver seems to work OK. Main receiver is very weak and little or no audio comes out of the speaker unless the processor button is pushed in! Modes where the processor is not used there is no receive function (CW,AM). I did find the fuse on the RF board blown, obvious it was overloaded as was smoked inside, (I think it is in series with the amp keying relay). Tuner seems to work fine too.

I have of course tried the reset. I have downloaded a PDF service manual but would like to find an original or a good copy that has the foldouts. I do have the original operators manual with the schematics. Marty/KL7AM Logged. A number of transceivers have a small incandescent bulb in series with the antenna which acts as a fuse.

A mismatch such as an 80 meter antenna on 160 might blow such a fuse. Of course any number of faults may have occurred and since you bought the rig second hand you really don't know what has happened during this xceiver's life. There is also a mention of an rx antenna relay mod for the FT-1000D this might be a fix. Get a service manual and track down the signal path from the antenna to the receiver input. Since the sub receiver works that seems to point more to the input circuit of the receiver that doesn't work. Good Luck Allen Logged.
