These products are no longer available. A smaller cousin to the D4R, this newly developed dovetail jig from Leigh adjusts for snug-fitting joints. It produces 8° through joints in stock from 1/8' to 13/16' thick, and half-blind and sliding dovetails in material up to 1' thick; maximum joint width is 16'. Like the D4R, it allows completely variable spacing of pins and tails; however, pin width depends on the diameter of the cutter.

Integral stops machined into the extruded aluminum body ensure joint alignment, while sturdy cam locks and non-marring textured surfaces provide secure clamping. Built-in scales allow rapid and precise adjustment for material thickness and fine-tuning of through-dovetail fit. The finger assembly easily flips to change from through to half-blind mode, automatically orienting the scale correctly. Comes with everything required to get started using a 1/2' router: 1/2' x 8° and 1/2' x 14° dovetail cutters and a 5/16' x 1' straight cutter (all 8mm shanks), a 1/2' to 8mm collet reducer, a 7/16' O.D. My Dad picked this up at a garage sale. It is that easy to use.

I was able to complete one project using dove tail joints but it was not too easy. If you are serious about making dovetails invest in a better tool. That said if you have this one and are looking for instructions I am posting them. One other tip.

When you are loading the boards onto the jig, there are steel dowel pins used to locate the horizontal position of the boards. There are two sets of holes. One set is for the 3/8' tool and another for the 1/2' tool. The guide is shallow and must be set twice. I am not sure why they did not make the guide deeper so that it does not need to be moved to get the full depth.
